SEXUALLY TRANSMITTED INFECTION (STI) CONSULTATION, SCREENING AND TREATMENT

Our services include outpatient clinical examinations and screening, diagnostic testing, medication and procedural treatments, inpatient care when necessary, post-treatment follow-up, and counseling on preventing transmission and reinfection.
International quality accreditation: HCMC Hospital of Dermato-Venereology has received accreditation under the EQuIP7 program of ACHS International (Australia).
1. Conditions We Diagnose and Treat
- Sexually transmitted infections (STIs): Genital warts (condyloma acuminata), Syphilis, Gonorrhea, Genital chlamydial infection, Genital herpes
- Other related conditions: Molluscum contagiosum, Urethritis, Vaginitis, Cervicitis, Balanitis and balanoposthitis
The department also provides counseling and testing for HIV, hepatitis B and hepatitis C, as well as cervical cancer screening when clinically indicated.
When should you seek medical evaluation? You should seek medical evaluation if you develop warts, blisters or ulcers in the genital or anal area, experience pain or burning during urination, or notice unusual genital discharge. Medical evaluation is also recommended if you suspect exposure to an STI, even if you have no symptoms.
2. Diagnostic Testing and Treatment Services
Testing and Screening
The hospital offers a range of diagnostic tests to support the detection of STIs, including microscopy and staining, serological testing, molecular diagnostic methods such as polymerase chain reaction (PCR), and other specialized tests as clinically indicated. Multiplex PCR testing may help detect multiple pathogens responsible for genital tract infections simultaneously, depending on the specific test performed.
Available screening and testing packages include:
- General screening packages for bacterial sexually transmitted infections
- Blood tests for syphilis and other coexisting infections, as indicated
- Urethral and vaginal discharge testing
- Cervical cancer screening services
Medical and Procedural Treatments
Depending on the condition and its severity, treatment options may include topical medications, oral medications, injectable medications, or procedures such as liquid nitrogen cryotherapy, electrocautery, and CO₂ laser treatment. For patients with numerous or large genital warts, or lesions located in sensitive areas, physicians will assess the condition and select an appropriate method of anesthesia when necessary.
Facilities and Patient Care
The department has dedicated areas for clinical examinations, counseling, procedures, and inpatient treatment. Patient care emphasizes clear medical guidance, confidentiality of personal information, appropriate treatment instructions, and counseling on preventing STI transmission and re-infection.
3. Important Information for Patients
Providing accurate medical information: Please inform your physician about your symptoms, the timing of any potential exposure, types of sexual activity, medications you have taken, allergies, and relevant medical history. This information helps your physician assess your condition and recommend appropriate diagnostic tests.
Preparing before your consultation: Do not take antibiotics or other medications for self-treatment without medical advice. Please follow the physician’s instructions regarding preparation for specimen collection and diagnostic testing.
After treatment: Take medications exactly as prescribed, practice safe sex, attend follow-up appointments as scheduled and discuss partner evaluation and testing with your physician when appropriate.
